...and I ain't kidding...

I ended up getting a virus on 1/18/10 called "Internet Security 2010." It is an "antivirus-Virus" and is one pervasive sonuvaB....I JUST got my tower back. once uploaded, you can't log on to the internet and if you can, tabs are redirected elsewhere...what a nightmare. Microsoft ranked it a 5/5...

Now I'm up and running again.

haha that wasnt a virus... that was a patch that prevents you from getting viruses by disabling your computer from being able to get on line, hence keeping you from getting more

Boot into safe mode with network connections, run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and it gets rid of it quickly.

Even that won't fully clean a machine from this stuff. Getting rid of something so intrusive can be incredibly burdensome. It takes cleaning out the registry as well and you never really get it all out. My POV is will it be quicker for me to rebuild or remediate the machine. Rebuild is almost always quicker. I keep personal data on a different drive then C:\ specifically for this and have a ghost image of my machine sitting on another drive. On my Wintel machine at home, I can be back from a nasty virus in about an hour.

If I recall correctly, the MacBook Air was one of the easiest systems to crack into. Linux, on the other hand, was almost impossible.

I couldn't do crap from Safe mode. It was already embedded so deep, it didn't matter.

Pretty much what I had my tech guy do...lol. Since he built the system for me, it only made good sense to have him clean it out for me. I am the mental midget when it comes to this stuff...where as he is the uber-dude

only reason why there is so few problems with macs and viruses is the fact that mac holds very little of the market share which means theres no fun (or money) in writing a virus thats only gonna take so little out. hackers do it for the lulz and there no lulz in messing with a small amount of macs
